Why We Don’t Do Free Bee Removal

At Mimi’s Bees, we often receive inquiries about free bee removal services. While we understand the concerns of people who have unwanted bees on their property, we unfortunately cannot offer free removal services. Here are a few reasons why:

  1. We have to purchase a hive box: When we remove bees, we need to give them a new home. This means we have to purchase a hive box to transfer them to. These boxes are expensive and we cannot afford to provide them for free.
  2. We provide mite treatment: In addition to a new home, bees also require miticide to treat against varro mites to ensure their health and survival. Varroa destructor mites are tiny parasites that feed on bodies of bees are the #1 cause of colony collapse. They spread deformed wing virus.  This treatment can be time-consuming and expensive, and we cannot provide it for free.
  3. We have to purchase a new queen bee: In our area, feral bees are often Africanized. This means that they are more aggressive and less productive than other types of bees. To ensure that the bees we remove are gentle and suitable to be rehomed, we need to purchase a new queen bee. Mated queens average about 45.00 plus overnight shipping.
  4. Newly removed bees and swarms are in despereate need of sugar syrup and pollen patties to provide them the protein and carbohydrates they need to build new comb and to start producing offspring.  The cost of sugar has skyrocketed over the last year.
  5. One of the biggest considerations is the time and expertise required to safely and effectively remove the bees. This can involve specialized equipment and techniques that are not readily available to the average person. Additionally, the cost of transportation and gas to and from the removal site are also factored into the final price. Ultimately, the cost of honey bee removal reflects the value of the service and the expertise of the beekeeper performing the removal.

While we understand that people may be hesitant to pay for bee removal services, we want to emphasize the importance of investing in the health and well-being of bees. Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, and removing them without proper care and treatment can be harmful to both the bees and the environment.

We are committed to providing ethical and sustainable beekeeping services. We believe that investing in the health and well-being of bees is essential, and we hope that others will join us in this mission.

If you have unwanted bees on your property and are interested in removal services, we encourage you to reach out to us for a consultation. While we cannot offer free services, we are committed to providing affordable and high-quality beekeeping services that prioritize the health and well-being of bees.
